As we reach the 6-week mark here in South Florida of the Covid-19 lockdown many States are getting ready for a ‘soft re-opening’. Many retail and hospitality employers shuttered businesses and laid off workers as they tried to reinvent themselves. Retail is a struggle.
Each municipality has guidelines which need to be met for brick and mortar to open safely. While reopening the economy is a welcoming sign, it must be said that many of the returning workers are not crazy about going back to work. Many are torn right now.
With the CARES Act subsidizing unemployment, there are workers who are earning more on employment than if they were working. Some are concerned that they may get the virus and get sick and potentially bring it home to their families.
For those millions of people who were terminated due to a reduction in the workforce there are other retailers that are considered essential and have been ramping up their workforce to satisfy the demand.
The National Retail Federation is doing their part to help and has offered their Rise Up Retail Fundamentals online course for free through June 12th. Check out this link for more information.
The introductory course is available to those looking to shore up their customer service and math skills. This can be very helpful for jobseekers with no retail experience. This can help to demonstrate competency on a resume.
Speaking of jobs, if you are looking for work, the NRF has a very comprehensive list with links to opportunities nationwide. For more information, click here.
Until next time- Wash your hands!
